Pucker Up...

Mistletoe is one of many Christmas holiday traditions. But have you ever wondered where the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe came from? The tradition started in ancient Greece, during the festival of Saturnalia and was later used in marriage ceremonies, because of the plant's association with fertility. During the Roman era, enemies at war would reconcile their differences under the mistletoe, which to them represented peace. Romans also decorated their houses and temples with mistletoe to please their gods.

Today, we take a much more lighthearted approach to the tradition. Although many couples simply just kiss when caught standing under it, there is actually proper etiquette for kissing under the mistletoe. The folklore states that one kiss is allowed for each berry that the gentleman plucks while kissing the lady. So ladies...make sure that the bunch of mistletoe you hang has lots of berries!
